Keiser University has raised $50,000 to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through the efforts of its staff and students across 17 campuses in Florida. This is the ninth year Keiser has taken part in a fundraising event for the foundation.

The 2015 campaign adopted a “Terminator”-inspired movie theme for activities that raised money to further research and care into cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic condition characterized by persistent lung infections and breathing difficulties. Keiser campaign events included penny wars, silent auctions, bake sales, dress-down for CF days, raffles, and themed gift baskets.

“We are beyond grateful for everything Dr. and Mrs. Keiser and everyone at Keiser University have done to support our efforts for nearly a decade,” said Christina Landshut, the executive director of the CF Foundation’s South Florida Office, in a news release. “We would not be nearly as successful without the ongoing commitment of Keiser University’s faculty, staff, and students. They truly are making a difference for everyone with CF.”

The university’s effort was part of an event led by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the honorary chairman of the annual Jeb Bush Florida Classic sporting event that has raised nearly $8 million for cystic fibrosis research and care over its 20 years.

“I am deeply honored that our students, faculty, and administration, year over year, mobilize in pursuit of a cure for cystic fibrosis,” said Belinda Keiser, the university’s vice chancellor. “Their community commitment, which is a critical component of our educational mission, has helped raise $380,000 throughout our service to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Collectively, we look forward to the day we can celebrate that the letters CF stand for ‘Cure Found.’”

The CF Foundation reports that more than 250,000 volunteers across the United States help to advance CR research and care through fundraising and awareness-raising efforts about the disease.

Keiser University is a private, not-for-profit institution with more than 20,000 students, and degrees are available both through its campuses and online.
