According to Azcentral, Glendale Joy Christian quarterback Matt Mitchell, Azcentral sports’ Division V Football Player of the Year, heard his name during halftime of Sunday’s Super Bowl 50 on the Westwood One national radio broadcast.

Mitchell, a senior who will continue his football career at Phoenix College, is among the top 10 students with cystic fibrosis being awarded a $10,000 “Sacks for CF” academic scholarship by the Boomer Esiason Foundation.

Abbott makes a donation for every sack during Monday Night Football games during the season. That money goes to the BEF and the scholarship fund.

Sacks for CF funds are awarded annually to 30 college students, based on their academic achievements and adherence to daily CF therapy.
