CBD and Drug Interactions
In the US, CBD products have been booming (not to be confused with THC, which is the high inducing substance). The legality around the substances is confusing, but the reality is that there is CBD products everywhere. Which, in my perspective, is awesome considering the medicinal benefits of CBD. But, I think it’s extremely important to heed caution, especially if you are on a CFTR modulator, as CBD may affect absorption of certain medications in the body. I came across this article that states “CBD is similar to grapefruit in that it also binds with those enzymes, but research suggests that it’s possibly even more potent because it binds in multiple parts of the gut and liver.” I note this because those who are on CFTR modulators are told not to eat grapefruit, as it can interfere with the absorption of the modulator, and if CBD does indeed mimic this interaction, it’s good to keep in mind 🙂
I am not totally sure of the validity of this article, but I think it’s worth noting and investigating. If y’all have anymore information, please let me know.
