  • How did CF change your high school and/or college experience?

CF, despite modulators and other airway clearance methods, still causes infections that can significantly affect our lives, especially when we are in high school and/or college. With frequent hospitalizations, doctor appointments, and feeling bad in general, this leads to a unique and different high school and/or college experience, compared to those without CF.

I had my first lung transplant before my first year of high school. Besides missing school for the aforementioned reasons, I had never been in school more frequently. When I was about to go to college, I began to experience organ failure, and COVID began, so I put off college until it was right for me. My transplant gave me those 4 years of semi-normalcy in high school that I would never have had without it.

How about you? How did CF affect your high school and/or college careers?
