Over the past few months, while binging Grey’s Anatomy, it felt like in the earlier seasons there would be one case every season of a person with CF. Each case was different, which is great, because there is no one version of CF for everyone.

Around Christmas, a documentary about Gunnar Esiason, son of former NFL MVP and CEO of the Boomer Esiason Foundation, Boomer Esiason, detailed his lifelong battle with CF and the promise Trikafta brought to it.

While these are great portrayals of CF, I think we could always have more representation.

How would you like to see a story of CF in movies, television, or a book?

I love, love, LOVE Grey’s Anatomy and also loved that documentary. I will say, I feel like the Grey’s episodes that center around a CF patient are often scary, tumultuous, and bleak, so I honestly skip these episodes when streaming because they are somewhat triggering, and no one needs that negativity if they don’t want it!

However, the Gunnar documentary was so uplifting and showed an accurate portrayal of promise and hope with CF. While I do understand how this is not the case for many, and how many may not have access to modulators or resources in the same way that Gunnar has, it was nice to see how someone with CF can really live and thrive.

A better balance of reality and positivity would be nice to see represented on television. However, Grey’s is about the drama… and always will be!
