  • What is your motivational CF theme song?

Fighting CF is hard, but music has the power to uplift us when we are down.  Since I was about 10, whenever I felt defeated or sad, my mom would play “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. It became my theme song, or motivator, that I would blast in the hospital before operations, or when I needed a cosmic reminder that everything will be okay. Do you have a motivational theme song?

Katie Perry – Fighter .. I forget the name of it. I went to a CFRI retreat once and it was the camp’s theme song that year and ever since it’s been a reminder of strong friendships in the community for me. 😍

Is it called Roar? Such a good song! How was the camp?

As the mom of a daughter with severe cystic fibrosis, this song by a French-Canadian band means so much to me. It was written by one of the band members, who is also the father of a daughter with cystic fibrosis. I took the liberty of translating the lyrics into English 🩷 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWDz5zEc1hs

    ___

    Despite the ghost stories

    Etched deep within my chromosomes

    Despite my breath growing shorter

Every time the clock makes one more turn

    I keep moving forward

Despite the fear that grips my guts

    Whenever statistics come up

    Whenever good news turns bad

    In a hospital hallway

    I keep moving forward

Despite the hard knocks and the bad luck

Despite those who never pass me the puck

I don’t want to stay stuck on the bench

I’m going to play in the big leagues

    I keep moving forward

    One step, one little step

One tiny little step at a time

The foot behind moves out in front

Falls into step, then starts again

A kick in the ass to bad luck

A thumbing of my nose at the deadline

One more step, one little step

Small and giant all at once

    Feet stamping, feet dancing

    Wrong-footed, going against the flow

    Ignoring all indifference

Over the distance, they will make

    The difference

With your heart stitched to mine

In the patchwork quilt of fate

To pick up the pieces of me

    Whenever I’m completely worn out

    I keep moving forward

With helping hands and little boosts

That make the climb a little easier

That put fuel in the tank

Of my body, which runs on hope

    I keep moving forward

    One step, one little step

One tiny little step at a time

The foot behind moves out in front

Falls into step, then starts again

A kick in the ass to bad luck

A thumbing of my nose at the deadline

One more step, one little step

Small and giant all at once

    Feet stamping, feet dancing

    Wrong-footed, going against the flow

    Wrong-footed, going against the flow

    Ignoring all indifference

Over the distance, they will make

    The difference

I’ve packed courage in my luggage

And a smile to calm the storm

I have your shoulder for the painful days

We’ll see where all of this takes us

    One step, one little step

One tiny little step at a time

The foot behind moves out in front

Falls into step, then starts again

A kick in the ass to bad luck

A thumbing of my nose at the deadline

One more step, one little step

Small and giant all at once

    Feet stamping, feet dancing

    Wrong-footed, going against the flow

    Wrong-footed, going against the flow

    Ignoring all indifference

Over the distance, they will make

    The difference
