What to say to someone when they say the have CF
I recognize it’s probably a bit of a shock to learn someone you just met has CF. And, I realize that there’s really little dialogue surrounding what are appropriate things to say when someone unveils that kind of information.
But, it’s frustrating to hear I’m so sorry or oh and stop dialogue there.
First of all, I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for me having a chronic condition, because it’s not quite their fault, and there’s nothing they or I can do about it. And, then silence afterwards is a bit awkward in itself.
So here are alternatives that I prefer, because I like talking about my disease:
Oh what’s that, I think I’ve heard of it?
Is CF the disease where xyz?
Oh really, my ___ has/d CF — they’re experiences were ___ are your’s similar?What would you suggest?
