I was diagnosed with CF by an Ambry Test in 2007. I’ve always had trouble with pneumonias, coughs, ear and sinus infections, from childhood in. Then in 2001 after a bronchoscope and culture, I was diagnosed with bronchietasis, and NTM (mycobacterium avium complex). I was very ill at the time with general malaise, night sweats, fevers, weight loss. I was started on azithromycin, ethambutol, and rifabutin. I have grown many NTMs and many gram negatives and gram positives. I’m a patient at UT in Tyler in our CF Clinic. And today I’m 76 years of age and still going strong. I do nebulizing with chest physiotherapy every day to help keep my lungs clear and I’m hoping to try Trykafta to thin my mucus. So…long story of my late diagnosis of CF at age 54. It’s been years of oral, IV meds, PICC lines and constant treatments but well worth it.
