Online Voting for AbbVie CF Scholarship Program 40 Student Awardees Open Until September
Biopharmaceutical company AbbVie has begun the voting process for the award of 40 scholarships to outstanding students with cystic fibrosis (CF). The award will grant each winner $2,500 to be invested in their undergraduate or graduate school education during the next school year. This is the 22nd edition of the Thriving Undergraduate or Graduate Scholar awards, and it is aimed at supporting the academic achievements of young CF patients.
The 2014 AbbVie CF Scholarship program will award the students chosen by online votes on the company’s website, which is open to the public until September 15th. It is also possible for people to vote by sending a text message with a unique ID assigned to a specific scholar to the number 23000. On the website, people can read inspirational stories of students living with CF.
“The achievement and dedication shown by the AbbVie CF Scholarship recipients continue to impress us each year,” said the vice president of GI Care, AbbVie, Jim Hynd. “Students with CF face significantly more mental, physical and emotional challenges than those who do not suffer the symptoms of this disease, and AbbVie is honored to support their academic endeavors as they become role models for the CF community.”
Throughout the 22 years of the CF Scholarship program, hundreds of students living with CF have already received an estimated $2.4 million in educational funding. The program was established in order to recognize and fight the financial burdens faced by many families who suffer from the disease, as well as to distinguish the achievements of students with CF.

The prescription of any AbbVie products is not a criteria for entering, which means that it is not necessary for scholarship applicants to have taken, currently take, or intend to take in the future, any medicine or product marketed by the company.
“The company’s mission is to use its expertise, dedicated people and unique approach to innovation to develop and market advanced therapies that address some of the world’s most complex and serious diseases,” explains AbbVie on their website. AbbVie employs approximately 25,000 people worldwide and markets medicines in more than 170 countries.
