Alegeus recently announced that it will donate a total of $20,000 to three charities — including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation — as part of its 2015 holiday giving program.

Instead of handing out corporate gifts and holiday cards, Alegeus opted to let employees chose charities to support. Votes given to the three nonprofits selected via a company dedicated webpage were then matched with donations of up to a dollar per vote. There were nearly 15,000 votes registered. The three winning charities are:

  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, $5,000.  The foundation’s mission is to cure cystic fibrosis (CF) and to provide all patients with an opportunity for the fullest life possible by funding research and drug development. It also works to ensure access to specialized and individualized treatment and care.
  • The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, $10,000.  This organization is devoted to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease through a heavily funded research agenda, and to ensuring the development of improved therapies for Parkinson’s patients.
  • Train a Dog Save a Warrior, $2,500 donation. TADSAW’s goal is to facilitate quality training of medical alert service dogs, as designated by Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines covering active-duty military and veterans who were wounded, suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), military sexual trauma (MST) or traumatic brain injury (TBI). TADSAW has accredited 495 medical alert service dog teams across the country and has 700 currently in, or about to begin, training.

“Alegeus employees are passionate about giving back to their communities – it’s one of our corporate values – and we were so pleased to give back to these organizations this holiday season,” said Alegeus’ chief executive officer, Steve Auerbach, in a press release. “By involving our employees and extended community in choosing causes that were personal, we were able to turn the mundane practice of sending holiday cards into something more fun and engaging — and with a greater purpose. It was very meaningful to hear all of the personal stories and the connections our employees have to these wonderful organizations.”

Alegeus is a Waltham, Massachusetts-headquartered company specialized in consumer-oriented healthcare solutions. Among its offerings is a widely used platform for the administration of healthcare benefit accounts.
