UK’s Cystic Fibrosis Trust Urges Participation in ‘Wear Yellow Day’ June 21
If the Cystic Fibrosis Trust (CFT) has its way, the United Kingdom will be awash in yellow on June 21.
On that day, the nonprofit organization is asking patients and supporters to don yellow — hopefully while fundraising — to symbolize a brighter future for those with the progressive inherited lung disease.
The annual Wear Yellow Day is held during Cystic Fibrosis Week in the U.K., where 10,400 people live with cystic fibrosis (CF).
Supporters may download the Wear Yellow Day guide to learn how to raise money for the CFT, which funds scientific research to better understand, treat, and cure CF, and to ensure high-quality patient care and support.
Fundraising ideas include hosting a yellow-themed day at work or school, having a “yellow” bake sale or guessing game, holding an auction or raffle, or incorporating the color in games. This site offers more ideas.
Using the hashtags #CFYelfie and #WearYellowDay, participants are urged to post photos of themselves on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms to help raise disease awareness. Here are some tips for how to do that effectively.
Even those who don’t like the color yellow are asked to wear it for the cause, using the hashtag #IHATEYELLOW in proclaiming the importance of their sacrifice.
“Whatever your feelings about this sometimes hated hue, you know that joining us for Wear Yellow Day on Friday 21 June, and putting on your own fundraising event is one of the most important things you can do to help us in the fight against cystic fibrosis,” the CFT’s website states.
Supporters also are asked to text YELLOW to 70500 to donate £5 ($6.29) to help CFT help patients. For example, funds could help pay for a support pack for a young patient, cover a patient’s medications for a year, pay for a lung transplant assessment, or ease the financial burden of a family coping with loss.
Another way to observe the day is by using posters to let coworkers, fellow students, or anyone in town know about individual fundraisers and how people can participate. Download a standard poster here.
A yellow collection box is available for downloading, cutting out and assembling, and bringing to the fundraiser. It displays donation information.
