Patients who suffer from cystic fibrosis often need supplements of vitamins A, D, E and K, which are fat-soluble vitamins that offer antioxidant properties and work as co-enzymes for biological pathways, neuro development, bone development, and coagulation. “Good nutrition is an important part of staying healthy with cystic fibrosis. In addition to maintaining a balanced, high-calorie diet, there are many things you can do to help keep your body healthy and fight off infection,” states the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) about the importance of vitamins in CF patients’ nutrition.

The majority of multivitamin preparations designed for CF patients include more than one vitamin and are known as ADEKs. Most common cystic fibrosis vitamins recommended to patients with the disease include Alpha E, Amino-Opti-E, Aqua Gem-E, Aquasol E, Aquavite-E, Centrum Singles-Vitamin E, E Pherol, E-400 Clear, E-600, E-Gems, Nutr-E-Sol, and Vita-Plus E Natural. The type of vitamins and dosage are defined according to a patient’s age and stage of the disease.
