‘Breathe With Me’ #Strawfie Challenge for Cystic Fibrosis Awareness
Recently, there has been lots of people posting selfies of themselves breathing through a straw. The idea behind the internet trend is to bring awareness as to how a cystic fibrosis patient feels on a daily basis.
This is all part of a cystic fibrosis awareness campaign benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
According to Wrekin News, “the idea is to have as many people as possible posting their ‘strawfies’ from 1st May. CF Awareness Week is 9th – 15th May. The hope is by then, thousands will have joined in to ‘get CF on everyone’s lips’. We also want people to nominate their friends to take part – like with the Ice Bucket Challenge.”
WHY DO A STRAWFIE?
The action of breathing through a straw, while pinching your nose, emulates the daily struggle to breathe experienced by people living with cystic fibrosis.
HOW TO TAKE PART:
- Step one: Try breathing through a straw with your nose pinched for at least 60 seconds.
- Step Two: Take a ‘straw breathing selfie’ of yourself performing the above action (a ‘Strawfie’) and post online (Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/blogs) with #Strawfie and #cfnewstoday hashtags, we’ll showcase your best strawfies and reactions next week.
- Step Three: Make a donation and nominate 3 friends to take part.

My pal Buddy asked me to do a #strawfie to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis, here’s how, #GetCFonEveryonesLips Ever wondered what the daily struggle to breathe feels like for people with Cystic Fibrosis? As it’s CF Awareness Week, why not take our straw breathing challenge and find out… Taking part will help us raise vital funds for all the brave Cystic Fibrosis fighters. The challenge: • Try breathing through a straw with your nose pinched for at least 60 seconds. • Take a straw face selfie and post it on social media using the hash tag #GetCFonEveryonesLips • Text BREATHE to 70500 to donate £5 to Cystic Fibrosis then nominate three friends to take on the challenge next. I nominate my furiends @bobsminiadventures @mayathesausage and the cheeky @jacob_bruno_mini_dachshunds to do a straw selfie ☺️???? And of course anyone else that would like to join in and donate ????❤️❤️
