Oransi donates air filters to help CF patients affected by wildfires
Partnership with Claire's Place Foundation fund provides purifiers
Oransi has donated air purifiers to help people with cystic fibrosis (CF) affected by smoke-filled air from the wildfires that flared up last month in Southern California, Claire’s Place Foundation said.
The foundation’s financial assistance program provides CF patients and their families with one-time funds for air purifiers, temporary lodging, food and nutrition, on top of other supplies. Oransi donated the filters through the foundation’s LA Fire Emergency Fund,
Many grant recipients are receiving Oransi’s Mod+ Air Purifiers, which are designed to capture smoke particles, pollen and other harmful compounds in large spaces, the foundation said.
“The Mod Series Air Purifiers provide a vital resource to families facing the compounded challenges of CF and wildfire smoke,” Melissa Yeager, executive director of Claire’s Place Foundation, said in a foundation press release. “Oransi’s generosity ensures that those most at risk can breathe a little easier during this crisis, which unfortunately will be a long-term threat in our air.”
Oransi filters, cash grants
CF is caused by mutations in the CFTR gene, resulting in a dysfunctional or absent CFTR protein. This leads to the buildup of abnormally thick and sticky mucus in several organs, particularly the lungs, where it blocks airflow and causes inflammation. People with CF commonly experience symptoms like shortness of breath, cough, and repeated lung infections.
The program is open to people with a confirmed CF diagnosis who live in Los Angeles County or nearby areas affected by the wildfires. A hospital professional must submit a referral by Feb. 12 attesting to the patient’s diagnosis and financial needs. Patients will then be sent a link to apply for the program.
Applicants can choose either an Oransi Mod+ Air Purifier or a small cash grant to cover basic needs or temporary housing. Grants are distributed by PayPal or Zelle.
The Mod+ Air Purifier has a three-in-one filter: a pre-filter for large, visible particles; a HEPA filter for fine dust, smoke, pollen, and other allergens; and activated carbon for odor and volatile organic compounds, chemicals that may have adverse health effects. The filter requires replacement every 12 months.
“Clean air is vital for everyone, especially during wildfire events, but it’s absolutely essential for those living with CF,” said Peter Mann, Oransi’s CEO. “As a company founded on the need to help families breathe easier, we’re proud to partner with Claire’s Place Foundation to provide air purifiers to CF families in Los Angeles. It’s an honor to support such an impactful organization and contribute to the health and safety of their community.”
