Throughout the decades, numerous institutes, centers, and organizations have enabled key research achievements. Among them is the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and “is strongly committed to supporting research aimed at preventing and treating heart, lung, and blood diseases and conditions and sleep disorders,” according to the NHLBI, which has supported investigations that have resulted in a better understanding of the disease, its causes and complications, as well as of CF treatments.
