The world has been following the heart-breaking story of Katie and Dalton Prager. Both Katie and Dalton had cystic fibrosis (CF), a chronic genetic disease.  The two met online through the CF community and quickly a friendship forged on common ground turned into true love. Katie was the real-life wife from the movie and novel “Fault in Our Stars.”

The couple married in 2011, but their illnesses kept them often apart.  Toward the end of her life,  Katie had become so sick that she decided to enter hospice care. Though Dalton hoped to move his own medical care to be near Katie, his illness became worse and the couple shared final goodbyes via Facetime. Dalton, 25, passed away from complications of the disease on Sept. 17. Katie died five days later. She was 26.

Mourners from all walks of life have come together with the cystic fibrosis community to remember Katie and Dalton Prager and to reflect upon how the couple’s love for each other touched the lives of so many more. Many are taking to social media networks to pay respects, including Katie’s mother Debbie.
