Bianca Nicholas made history when she and Alex Larke, together known as Electro Velvet, represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song “Still in Love with You.” Bianca suffers from cystic fibrosis, and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is raising awareness through her participation in the Eurovision contest through a social medial awareness campaign centered on the #breathe4bianca hashtag to support her efforts.
In spite of the disease, Nicholas has moved forward in her music career, having already appeared on talent shows The X Factor and The Voice UK. She has released a song that made the UK Top 100 singles chart and played a small part in the movie Sleepy Hollow side by side with Johnny Depp.
To support her ongoing efforts, she and the Trust are encouraging people to take a selfie holding their breath and share it through social media with the #breathe4bianca hashtag and to encourage people to donate £3 to the Trust by simply texting BIANCA to 70300 in the UK. The main goal is to support Electro Velvet in order to raise awareness and gather funds crucial to help finding a cure for cystic fibrosis through research.
The Community Fundraiser at the Trust, Emma Black, said: “We’re so excited to share this with our community. There has been such support for Bianca and Electro Velvet, and I think everyone at the Trust has come down with a dose of Eurovision fever. This is a great opportunity to shine a light on cystic fibrosis, which is chronically misunderstood, and to show what people with the condition can do, while raising some much-needed funds.”

A 39 year-old man with Cystic Fibrosis who was planning to scale Mount Everest in an effort to raise money and awareness for the disease is reportedly safe and making his way back from Everest’s base camp after a massive earthquake over the weekend ravaged the region leaving thousands dead, including would-be climbers. Last week, Cystic Fibrosis News Today reported on Nick Talbot’s mission to climb the highest mountain in the world in spite of his disease, which would compound an already daunting challenge of braving the cold, thin air and dietary challenges of making such an effort. Talbot, however, could have never predicted that his advocacy mission would be interrupted by such a wild and devastating turn of events.
