Learning Boundaries
Your own personal boundaries are so important. And placing boundaries to maintain your health (CF or Not) is incredibly empowering.
In college, I would let nights out go on and on. And almost inevitably reach a drunken moment where I would think to myself “What? This isn’t me. I don’t want to be here.” And I would slip out, grantees this would be at 3 or 4 AM. After friends pressured me into staying longer. Granted, I also let them do that — because I had real FOMO (fear of missing out).
Fast forward out of college and through a bout of depression.
I’ve learned to listen to ME. I’ve found those limits that say, okay no more drinking, a few more conversation pieces, and it’s time to call an Uber or your brother.
And that’s empowering. I did that last night, and now I think I’m at the point where I don’t have to sneak to the bathroom and call my brother. But, point blank tell my friends “Hey I need to go.”
I waiver on my ability to do that, but I’m getting there.1. What lessons are you learning as a young adult with CF?
