We particularly love Wes Hawkins. He was diagnosed at 3 years old, yet neither him nor his parents let CF define him.
CF didn’t truly start showing its face until he was in  high school and college.

Then, in 2019, Wes was told he needed a double-lung transplant to survive, and fast. After only two months on the waiting list, he received his “call” on Aug. 8, 2019.

For Wes, this second chance at life was all or nothing. He made himself the promise that if he made it to and through transplant, he would be true to himself 100%. No more faking it. In his words:

“Now, I get to live gay, and I am proud, and I have never been more at ease. I owe it all to my faith, my donor, and my support system”

We are fans of yours, Wes.

Now back to our CF Community: Did receiving a transplant change your view of life? In what way?

The specialist was missing the point. It is not about control. Trying to control nature is not the way to go. Better to go beyond it. Then we will find no patiënt and no disease, only what is happening and our intuitive response to this. Wu Wei.
