For as long as I can remember, I’ve cultured pseudomonas and various types of staph – sometimes methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and sometimes just regular ol’ staphylococcus aureus. In my family, we’ve always referred to them as “bugs.” Since being on Trikafta, I’ve had much less bacterial growth but anytime I have a sputum culture, my old friends still show up.

I’m curious to know if you regularly culture a specific kind of bacteria. Have you been able to eradicate certain “bugs” from your lungs? What do your sputum cultures generally look like? (Or your loved ones?)

I constantly grow pseudomonas! It’s been a pain in the butt as it feels like it’s always popping up, but I will never stop trying to get rid of it.

Hello. I‘m Deanna. Has anyone ever cultivated Maxorella? Gram negative bug. I also cultured several years ago Bordatella Bronchoseptica. Both were nasty. The Bordetella I got from a sick puppy. Had to be hospitalized twice. It took iv fluids PICC line at home for several weeks. Unusual but I cultured these weird things. The Moraxella was recently in December. Augmentin that caused severe diarrhea. I’m on Trikafta the past three months. 2 a day , not 3. And I’m 76. Diagnosed in 2007.
Trouble all my life but didn’t know I had cf. Deltaf508 and a lesser known mutation. Deanna

Deanna, it’s interesting to me how we can all culture SUCH different things! I haven’t ever had either of the things you mentioned here, and I genuinely had no idea a human could contract Bordetella from a dog (I’ve had them my entire life). Thanks for sharing this! I hope you are currently doing well. How are you tolerating Trikafta at this point in your journey?
