When to tell your child they have CF:
I’ve gotten this question a few times in the last few days. And while I’m not a parent, I have the perspective of a person who once was a child.
For me, because I was diagnosed late at nine years old, I always knew I had CF. But, I think my mom’s approach toward my CF was incredibly constructive.
For her, she was very open with what CF was capable of and made sure I knew as well. However, she also was very adamant that I could do and pursue any and all my dreams.
“But I have CF” was quickly countered with “So what. When you want something, the whole world conspires in your favor”
So for me, I think knowing I had CF, what it entailed, but I also being encouraged to pursue life.
