The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is once again accepting applications for its Impact Grants, a funding initiative that offers $10,000 per year for up to two years to support programs that empower people living with cystic fibrosis (CF).

Applications can be submitted via an online portal and will be accepted through April 3. To aid potential applicants, the foundation is hosting an informational webinar this Thursday, March 13.

“With more than $1 million awarded since its launch in 2016, Impact Grants reflect the CF Foundation’s commitment to help people with CF live full lives,” the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation stated in an email to Cystic Fibrosis News Today. “Whether someone is developing an idea or already running an established program, Impact Grants can help them move their vision forward.”

To be eligible for the Impact Grants, prospective programs need to include opportunities for active engagement from people with CF and/or their loved ones. Programs don’t necessarily have to be disease-specific, but do need to have the potential to measurably impact the CF community — ideally on a national scale or in service of an underrepresented group. Importantly, these grants are not intended for scientists doing CF research or for organizations focused on fundraising or lobbying.

Over $1M awarded in Impact Grants since 2016

Applications for the grants will be reviewed by the foundation’s CF Adult Advisory Council, a rotating group of individuals living with the condition. All are intimately familiar with the challenges the CF community is facing, and regularly offer guidance to the foundation on its various initiatives.

The program’s webpage asks: “Do you have an idea that could make a difference for the CF community?”

The Impact Grants were first awarded nearly a decade ago and, in the years since, the nonprofit has provided more than $1 million to support CF programs. The initiatives it has funded have spanned physical wellness and personal and professional growth opportunities to fun classes for patients of all ages.

Last year, four programs were selected for these awards, including a taekwondo fitness class aimed at kids with CF and a virtual cooking series seeking to help people with CF meet their dietary needs. The other two initiatives funded last year were a virtual program offering artistic classes for people with CF and a a podcast sharing personal stories and updates on advances in CF care.

“The best ideas come from personal experience, and no one knows the ins and outs of life with CF like the CF community!” the nonprofit states on its webpage.

Individuals and organizations seeking more information, or wondering if their program would be a good fit for these grants, can contact the foundation by email at [email protected].
