There are many ways to raise awareness of a chronic illness — but one of the most effective methods is through art. Company 360 is a performing arts company that’s been able to take their skill and translate it into moving think pieces that encourage discussion and action. Earlier this year, they created “Dance for Donor Heroes,” a video to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation.

Now, the company’s back at it again with “Love With Cystic Fibrosis: A Dance Film,” which was created to raise awareness of the impact CF can have on caregivers and loved ones. While most automatically think of those living with the disease, Company 360 wanted to bring attention to the “blind trust and faith that is required to be a CF caretaker” — and to do so, the organizers didn’t tell the dancers what the video would be about until the project was finished. In fact, most of those involved saw the final video for the first time when it was posted online.

Every aspect of the video has a connection to CF, including the music. The song in the video is “Sixty-Five Roses” by American rapper Everlast, whose eldest daughter was diagnosed with the genetic disorder shortly after she was born. While principal dancer, Bailey Anne Vincent, a Cystic Fibrosis News Today columnist who’s been treated as a CF patient for her PCD, wasn’t sure she ever wanted to create a video for the lung disease (“It’s so close to home”), her connection with Everlast’s daughter encouraged her to tackle the subject. The little girl loves to dance and since she rarely sees “big-girl ballerinas with feeding tubes like hers,” Vincent decided it was high time to change that.
