• You know you have CF when…

Today, while waiting outside the lab for a glucose tolerance test, I opened my phone to realize that it had automatically connected to the hospital’s wifi network. I thought of a phrase I’d heard recently, “Home is where the wifi connects automatically.” I then laughed to myself because I realized that my phone automatically connects at multiple hospitals and clinics… which sometimes feel like home to me. It was a silly “you know you have CF when…” moment.

Upon that realization, I asked friends on IG to tell me their own you know you have CF/are a chronic patient when phrases. Here’s are some they came up with.

You know you have CF when…

You go for a power walk and hear Creon rattling around in your coat pocket.
The pharmacist no longer has to ask your name and birthdate.
Your iPhone shortcuts are all pharmacy and clinic phone numbers and email addresses.
The ladies at the check in desk don’t need to ask your name.
You know the specific phlebotomist you want to take your blood.
Your appointment takes an hour longer than it should because you’re chatting with everyone on your team.
You can talk in detail about bowel movements with anyone without batting an eye.

What about you? I’d love to hear your “you know you have CF when…”
