I will always take the opportunity for a nap. If my body is telling me that I need rest, then I listen.

I have recently have experienced some negative side effects to medicine – upset and sour stomach, excessive thirst, and overall malaise. I tried my best to counteract these negative side effects by staying hydrated, avoiding any food items that may upset my stomach further, and giving the medicine some time to work its course. I began to feel better within one to two days after taking the medicine, and will be a bit more cautious in the future when taking it.

I don’t have diabetes myself, but have been helping family members to manage their diabetes for quite some time. I find it helpful for them to track their blood sugars to see if there are any patterns or trends during certain times of the day. With this information, they are able to make any adjustments necessary (after consulting with their endocrinologist). Also, sticking to a high-protein, diabetes-friendly diet is of course very helpful!

So far, I’ve been fortunate enough to not have anyone need to step up to advocate for me in a medical situation. However, I myself have been an advocate for both my husband and parents when they’ve in the hospital with serious medical issues. I listen and learn all that I can as to stay knowledgeable of their procedures throughout their stay, and do my best to ensure that they receive the help they need, as well anything at all that can possibly make their stay easier and more comfortable.

MemberDecember 7, 2023 at 10:19 am in reply to: What are you looking forward to in 2024?I’m looking forward to quite a bit in the upcoming year. From planned travel experiences, to continuing to build upon the foundation for myself and my family’s future, and hopefully (and importantly!) to more and more advancement in helping those with CF – especially those with nonsense (rare) mutations!

I have some upcoming travels planned for 2024! While I don’t have any major plans laid out yet, I am laying the groundwork for my future as much as I can this year. We’ll see how it all goes!

While I haven’t had a PICC line in myself, I do know someone who has. It’s important to keep it clean and covered to avoid and tear or break. It is also incredibly helpful to time your PICC line preparation (for flushing, refilling the medicine, resetting the machine, etc.) so that you can properly allot for how long it’ll take daily and incorporate this into your daily routine. Planning ahead!

I have not had a hospital stay myself, but I have had a loved one hospitalized recently. I do my best to help them cope by allowing them to rest while still integrating elements of their regular routine (like messages, sports, food, TV shows) so that don’t feel too isolated and cut off from the outside world during their stay. I hope it helps!

MemberSeptember 27, 2023 at 1:30 pm in reply to: What habits do you have that help you comply with your treatments? While I do not adhere to any treatments myself (as I am a caregiver), I do find checklists, notes, and alarms to be helpful to keep on task when it comes to completing treatments. While often these treatments feel like second-nature, it is easy to slip up and forget about them when out for the day, wrapped up in a good movie or TV show, or running around and completing regular at-home tasks and chores.

While summer is ending soon (but not ended, yet!), my husband and I recently just started binging Ozark. A rewatch (for me!) of Game of Thrones is coming next. I mean… everyone’s gotta watch it in its entirety at least once, right?

As a CF caregiver, my (at-the-time) boyfriend had to call during a hospital stay to postpone a planned Disney vacation. However, this turned out for the better – as we got engaged during our rescheduled visit! The rest is history.

While I do not take Tobramycin myself, I do try to help those in my life with CF who take it. It is important to watch for any reactions upon first taking it and throughout the duration as well as monitoring throughout for any improvement (such as less coughing or expelling more mucus).

MemberSeptember 12, 2023 at 10:48 am in reply to: How do you deal with your CF cough in public? While I do not experience CF cough myself, I try to alleviate the cough for those suffering from it as much as I can by ensuring they’re prepared when leaving the house or entering someplace quiet (such as a movie theater, church setting, etc.). It is important to remember to bring any medical portable equipment necessary (such as an inhaler), some cough drops, water, and a face mask.

I haven’t heard of imposter syndrome! After some quick research, I do not personally suffer with imposter syndrome, but I do find this to be a very interesting concept and field of study and would like to learn some more about it.

It is rare that I meet a food I do not like. I would say my favorite types of food have to be Latin, Italian, and Japanese. I also have an affinity for Southern and Creole food. I really do love it all!

I knew I met the right person on our first date, too. Luckily, we’re married now!

Yes, I do know someone with symptoms of long COVID. A good friend of mine was positive for COVID-19 and virtually asymptomatic; they only knew they had COVID-19 after taking a test prior to seeing an elderly family member as a precaution. They then began experiencing long COVID symptoms about three to four months after their COVID-19 had passed, and now they are struggling with long-term disordered smell and taste. They recently began seeing a specialist for help and are hopeful that treatment will bring back their smell and taste.

Time really flies! My favorite memories of 2023 (so far) have been the new places I’ve been able to visit and starting a new job in a more positive environment. It’s been a great year so far!

It’s true! They are.

Ozark had a quick pick-up and seemed to slow down some, but overall it is an interesting and thoughtful, exciting show. However, the picture itself is a bit too dark for me on the screen (I mean that literally, not figuratively – it is very dark)!
