Applications now open for Abbvie’s cystic fibrosis scholarship program
$3K scholarships to be awarded to 40 US students; 2 can win $22K more

Undergraduate and graduate students in the U.S. who have cystic fibrosis (CF) are invited to apply for Abbvie‘s CF Scholarship program — the 2025 applications are now open, according to the pharmaceutical company’s website.
Each year, the program selects 40 students for awards, with each given a $3,000 scholarship. Two students, one at the undergraduate level and one in a graduate program, are then also selected for a Thriving Student Scholarship, winning an extra $22,000. Altogether, the total award for those two students is $25,000, to be used toward educational expenses.
“The Abbvie CF Scholarship program honors those who are thriving with cystic fibrosis, offering the chance to win up to $25,000 in pursuit of higher education,” the website states.
To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants must be enrolled or awaiting acceptance for the 2025-26 school year at an accredited institution, and also must be citizens or legal residents of the U.S. The program is open to both full-time and part-time students, as long as they are working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree.
Scholarship program has awarded over $3M since 1993
Funds from the scholarship may be used to help pay for qualified educational expenses such as tuition, books, and school fees.
Applications may be submitted online or sent in via mail. It requires details about the student’s academic and extracurricular achievements as well as a short essay and a creative presentation. All applications must be submitted or postmarked by May 15.
Once submitted, the applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges, who will award each applicant a score of up to 70 — with up to 30 points based on academic record and extracurricular activities, and up to 20 points each for the essay and creative presentation. The 40 highest-scoring applicants will be selected to win the scholarship; winners will be notified on or around June 19.
In September, the 40 winners will have their creative presentations and academic accolades posted online, and the public will be able to vote to select the most inspiring. Votes from the public combined with scores from the judges will be used to select the winners of the total $25,000 Thriving Student Scholarship award.
Since its launch in 1993, Abbvie’s CF Scholarship program has awarded more than $3.4 million to support the education of students with CF, according to the company.
Employees of Abbvie and their immediate family members are not eligible to apply; nor are healthcare providers and their immediate family members. Students who have previously won the $25,000 Thriving Student Scholarship award are not eligible to apply again, but those who have previously won the $3,000 scholarship may do so.
