Pharmacy benefits and services company Elixir has chosen Maxor Specialty Pharmacy to be its network’s exclusive provider of medications for cystic fibrosis (CF).

Maxor Specialty specializes in rare diseases like CF and is one of four pharmacies in the U.S. to have access to all medications approved for cystic fibrosis, including the triple combination therapy Trikafta, as well as KalydecoOrkambi, and Symdeko.

An Elixir’s specialty pharmacy provides continuous support, treatment, and care in a form tailored to suit the particular needs of each individual, the company states.

With Maxor Specialty as its partner, Elixir will be able to help people living with CF by managing disease-specific medication, teaching how to clean and maintain their equipment, and fulfilling their prescriptions.

“Partnerships between specialty pharmacies and payers are essential for the future of the specialty industry,” Mike Ellis, CEO at Maxor Specialty, said in a press release. “I’d like to thank the Elixir team for recognizing the value created through our patient care model and for giving Maxor Specialty the opportunity to provide exceptional care to the cystic fibrosis patients within their patient population.”

Specialty medications require education regarding usage, as well as special handling and storage. In addition, they may have limited distribution across the country, according to a brochure detailing Elixir’s services.

The company offers flexible delivery options, including shipping medications to a home or alternate address, work address, or the doctor’s office.

Once the delivery is scheduled, the specialty pharmacy will fulfill the order. Medications are prepared according to the doctor’s prescription with easy-to-read labels.

To support patients throughout their therapeutic journey, Elixir also provides, at no additional charge, a care program that includes disease state education and monitoring, injection training and technique, management strategies of side effects, and medication counseling.

“We are excited to bring Elixir’s members into our CF center of excellence and demonstrate our passion for putting patients at the center of everything we do,” said Jessie Heaton, vice president of specialty and infusion at Maxor Specialty. “We build long lasting relationships with our patients and maintain a connection of care with their providers and caretakers.”
