Patient Hoping To Learn From Parents
My column today is about the difficult side of parenting as a “sick person” (and, I’m going to be honest, it gets pretty honest), but it made me wonder…
What do you wish patients knew about being a parent to a patient?
I spend so much time focusing on being a good mom to my girls (wrote about pregnancy and childbirth on the forum yesterday), that I never stop think about how MY Mom feels. Perhaps it’s because I was diagnosed later in life so I was already more autonomous? Or maybe it’s because once you become a parent yourself, you’re full speed ahead?… But I want to do better. Listen. Learn.
If you had to give one sentence of advice for how I can make my parents’ lives easier as a patient… What would it be?
